As a young child, Bruce Wayne watched his parents murdered before his eyes. Thomas and Martha Wayne were walking home from the Monarch Theater one night with their son, when they were held up at gunpoint by a mugger who demanded the pearl necklace that Martha was wearing. When Dr. Wayne refused to surrender it, both he and Martha were shot dead in the streets. Bruce was then raised on the Wayne Manor estate, in hills of New York overlooking Gotham, by a series of social workers with help from loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth.
Bruce had very few friends during his childhood and left Gotham as soon as he finished high school to study at some of the finest colleges in the world. Although he had been a good student at the private high school he attended, Bruce lacked focus in college and rarely stayed in any school for more than a semester.
He returned to Gotham and Wayne Industries and Wayne Manor but has resisted taking daily responsibility for the company which has survived under a number of managers in his absence. They describe Wayne as erratic, alternating between an alcohol-swilling, womanizing playboy totally disinterested in the business, a decent but unfocused business manager, and detail-oriented philanthropist.
In recent news, Wayne barely survived a horrific automobile accident near Albany New York and has been in isolation during his convalescence. Rumor states that his back was broken and he may never walk again.
