Gotham on the Brink
Now run by Jermiah Arkham after the tragic events that led to the death of Amadeus Arkham.
The new Dr. Arkham has taken a hardline approach towards the care of his patients. He completely renovated the interior of the hospital, tearing away the old Victorian-style architecture, replacing it with labyrinthian corridors designed to confuse the inmates so that even if they got loose within the asylum, they would find it difficult to escape.
Other security measures include the ability to spray gas in the hallways, armed guards at all times, and the use of electricity in every function of the building. Breaking the flow of electricity instantly puts then entire building into lock-down.
Despite this, the have been a continuing series of successful and unsuccessful break-out attempts, most quite ingenious. As Dr. Arkham has said, “Arkham Asylum is not just any institution for the criminally insane. It’s the Ivy League of insanity.”
Dr. Arkham hopes that the addition of two new psychiatrists (Dr. Harleen Quinn and Dr. Johnathon Crane) will finally bring some order to the Asylum as the workload has become too much for him alone.
